The world's largest network of solar farms will soon help power the Murcia region.
Construction work is due to begin in November 2006 on a solar power project which will hav the capacity to produce 14 megawatts of electricity, around 4% of the regions needs. The initial phase is based at Lobosillo with subsequent phases to be constructed at Alhama and in the north and eastern parts of Murcia. Don Benito Mercado, Councillor for Industry and the Environment, and Don Miguel Angel Camara, Mayor of Murcia, presented details of the project stating, "This is very positive news for the economy of the Region of Murcia as a project of this size will create thousands of jobs and it will ultimately be beneficial for the environment."
